Last week I received some good news: one of the two pieces I entered into the Quilting Arts Calendar Challenge 2010 "Flavor of the Month" was accepted as a finalist. The piece is 12" x 12", and it is called "Sopa Rosita", it is the flavor for the month of November.
My sister Andrea’s birthday is November 12th. My mom made our day more special by cooking our favourite foods. Andrea’s request was always Sopa Rosita, which was our family’s version of the Russian Borscht (my grandmother was Russian) – cream of beet soup made pink by the addition of a swirl of cream. So, every November Andrea got her wish and her soup, and I got to sit at the table and look at my plate thinking of a way to make it disappear because I did not like it at all! Whenever I think of the month of November, I think of my sister, and her love of Sopa Rosita.
